About Us >
Who We Are
We were formed in 1999 by a small group of friends who believed policy makers on the Great Plains were not developing the necessary policy and conservation approaches to address the decline of rural grassland communities and the decline of grassland wildlife. We believed those issues were linked, so we set out to develop an organization that would focus on changing the way people in the region think about the grassland landscape.
Today we are still governed by a small, mostly local Board of Directors and are guided in our policy and conservation work by an Advisory Board of experts. Our day to day work is accomplished through an Executive Director, a part-time Administrative and Communications Associate, part-time contractors and student interns. Our internal have come from the University of Nebraska, University of South Dakota and University of Iowa. We enjoy a collaborative relation with the Denver Zoological Foundation, and its team of scientists, as well as the World Wildlife Fund's High Plains program in Bozeman, Montana and the Center for Rural Affairs in Lyons, Nebraska.
