Our reasoning for choosing a stylized dragonfly was to reveal our desire to think differently about the grassland landscape overall. While dependent on aquatic habitats for reproduction, dragonflies need surrounding grasslands for the insect prey they shelter, thereby representing the interdependence between human communities and their surrounding grassland habitats. Incidentally, the wetlands and surrounding grasslands of Nebraska's Sandhills contain some of the best examples of dragonfly diversity on the plains.
